Sustainability

Here are just some of vinyl’s sustainable features.

Vinyl’s long service life conserves raw materials and prevents pollution associated with manufacturing and disposal of shorter-life alternatives.

Lighter weight vinyl products reduce fuel consumption when transporting, and generate lower impact compared to alternative solutions.

At the end of their service life, vinyl products still have life left in them. Many can be recycled into feedstock for new vinyl products.

More than 1 billion pounds of vinyl is recycled annually in the U.S. and Canada which includes 958 million pounds of pre-consumer vinyl materials and 142 million pounds of post-consumer vinyl materials.

Highly durable vinyl products have a relatively low impact on the environment compared to alternatives. The Earth’s natural resources are not infinite, so using resources that are abundant is part of what is called sustainable development. Vinyl resin is derived from natural gas, saltwater and air.

To protect public health and the environment, vinyl manufacturing employ many computer and engineering controls. Examples of engineering controls include ventilation systems, enclosure systems, and automated equipment.
